You wear trap and you don't know it: find out why
For a few years now we have been attentive to the emergence of a musical style that has changed the contemporary popular scene and that has marked a before and after in hip hop specifically.
Let's talk about trap.
Names like Drake , Kanye West , Travis Scot , Beyoncé or Bad Bunny, on the other side of the pond, and national singers like C.Tangana , Kinder Malo , Bad Gyal , La Zowi, Yung Beef or Babi are some of the many who have stood out or emerged thanks to this genre.
Trap is pose, it is tracksuits and expensive brands. It is speaking clearly with a dirty electronic base. It makes us sway thanks to the mix of synthesizers and sub-bass (without forgetting the use and abuse of autotune that has made it so famous) and it puts us in that dark and intimidating imaginary thanks to its harmony, its lyrics and, above all, its attitude.
And this last characteristic is what makes trap a trend that has not only modified the charts but has also greatly influenced fashion.
But what is it? What is the history of trap?
This subgenre of rap was born in the United States in the early 90s in the city of Atlanta between dance music, hip hop and a marginal environment.
Mainly the songs talked about drugs, life in the ghetto and the struggle to achieve money and success. Trap emerges in a difficult social context and this is reflected both in the depressing rhythm and in the harsh and direct lyrics.
Anyway, it's not all drama. The genre has evolved since then and has also been influenced by other music. In Spain and Latin America, for example, it has been closely linked with reggaeton or dance hall, resulting in more dynamic melodies and less down lyrics.
The importance of aesthetics
It is not new. Rock, punk, rap itself... all these musical genres were and are accompanied by a fashion. It has always happened and now trap is the new genre that is changing everything .
If there is something that has advanced in the music industry, it is visual content. Since channels like MTV positioned the video clip and the well-known platform YouTube appeared in our lives, music would no longer be understood without its companion, aesthetics.
Both go hand in hand and are increasingly united. And we would even dare to say that today music is not conceived without being an audiovisual product with a style and an aesthetic current. Each musical project is created with an increasingly complete artistic concept.
Trap is in fashion
Whether you listen to trap songs or not, the point is that you have allowed yourself to be conquered by many of their influences.
In the Insta profiles of our trap girls and in their video clips we see sports clothing, coats, sweatshirts, lycra, a lot of eyeliner, sneakers and gold. A very marked style that combines a more neighborhood look with vintage and Louis Vuitton clothing. Pijerío without forgetting your urban roots.
And it may seem very chony, but the truth is that famous designers have approached this trend; such as María Escoté or Palomo Spain who have dressed Rosalía on several occasions.
Obviously, the exaggeration of the stars in their outfits and in the video clips is not what we see on the streets (or yes, there are daring ones). But we do see how we have brought all those ideas down to earth and made them our own in everyday life. Stores like Bershka and Pull and Bear have surrendered to the evidence and despite being mostly young fashion, the reality is that we see his long shadow in all ages.
We list the most important aspects of trap that have affected our daily lives.
1. Long live the tracksuit. Going dressed up but informal is one of the wonders that trap has brought us. The sporty spyce fashion arrived and we even combine it with heels or boots.
2. Sneakers for everything . The boom in platform sneakers has been with us for a couple of years and has established itself (and we are thankful because they make our lives and our feet happy because of how comfortable they are). The sneaker is a shoe that is very adaptable to any style: we have seen them combined with midi skirts and dresses. Its use is now universal and there is no outfit that it doesn't go with.
And he has no age. We all fall in love with stylish lines and a light and comfortable sole. The Patagonia are perfect for giving a look with attitude to any outfit. See all our sneakers here.
3. Gel nails. Trap singers wore them because they conferred status. If your manicure consists of long nails it is because you do not do manual work and therefore you have achieved an important level of success. Here in real life we fell in love with all the aesthetics behind nail art and we also wanted to play with our nails and always have them perfect. We are all Rosalía.
4. Big brands. If something characterizes the fashion of trap singers, it is how they mix clothes from affordable stores with brands like Gucci, Lacoste, Versace or Moschino. Bad Gyal already says it in his song Mercadona : "I want Lomba and not Pimkie"
In fact, the Spanish rapper, Yung Beef, was the image of Calvin Klein and walked on the catwalk for the brand. She has her own clothing brand and a store in the Malasaña neighborhood, Madrid.
Designers have been able to see the potential of this urban trend and have included clothing and footwear inspired by it in their collections.
5. Gold and hoop earrings. Having is important and having a lot is even more important. We talk again about the status of the singers: "gold chains to shine" that Recycled J says in his lyrics. What do you see on the streets? Oversized hoop earrings or their thinner version have been seen on the ears of celebrities and influencers of all kinds.
6. Crop Top. That mini T-shirt that triumphed back in the 2000s and that made it fashionable to show your navel clearly resurfaced thanks to trap. There are more modest ones, sweeter ones, more powerful and sporty ones and wider ones or tighter ones. For all tastes go.

Trap is a living style that never stops transforming . We like to see how famous singers have fun with the proposals and we are fascinated to find it reflected later in our daily lives, which is, ironically, where everything comes from.
We love how the catwalks draw from the street and how the street is inspired by the catwalks. A vicious circle that only enriches the world of fashion even more.
